New-Year’s Greeting, 2007 Overview, and Request for Feedback

I would like to greet 2008 by thanking you for choosing to subscribe to my blog in its first year of operation!

2007-2008

I will outline my plans for Homeopathy Zone in the upcoming year, and would like to ask for your feedback to help me make this blog better serve your needs and expectations.

2007 Overview

I posted the first article nearly a year ago, and have actively been promoting the site for just over 6 months. Over 800 of you have joined the mailing list by e-mail or RSS, and several dozen more continue to join every week. Much of the work on the blog in its first months took place behind the scenes, first in design and later on in promotion.

The main challenge I have faced in creating a blog on classical homeopathy is that it is usually impossible to give specific treatment advice before a full homeopathic consultation is performed. The individualized nature of homeopathy is thus both a blessing and a curse: a blessing, because it is the source of homeopathy’s ability to address chronic conditions of all kind; a curse, because there is no substitute for expert diagnosis by a qualified homeopath in almost all clinical scenarios.

Plans for the upcoming year

My main goal is to increase the frequency of publication to once every 7-10 days (now that the site infrastructure is stably in place) without sacrificing quality for quantity.

Content-wise, I intend to overcome the challenge I just described by doing more teaching of homeopathy by example (as in the article on suppression of symptoms), in addition to the mainly explanatory approach I have taken so far, and by expanding the scope of the blog to include select advice on health and personal growth.

I will continue exploring the skeptical perspective on homeopathy, following the popularity of Is Homeopathic Medicine the “Enemy of Reason”?, as judged by the site visits it brought and the comments it elicited. Though I am biased on the matter — don’t expect me to conclude that homeopathy isn’t real! — I have spent much time considering the various skeptical arguments against homeopathy and will be sharing with you my replies to them.

I will be broadening the blog’s scope to include quality natural-health and personal-development advice that can be offered without individualization. These will include:

  • Basic dietary and lifestyle recommendations that could have the most positive impact on your health. We are inundated with health advice, yet much of it is inaccurate or focuses our attention away from the all-important basics. A handful of basic habits, when focused on intently until mastered, will yield far more dividends than the latest supplements or a bookshelf overflowing with self-help best-sellers.
  • Recommendations for natural-health and personal-development products and resources. In my ongoing research and clinical work I’ve made a habit of identifying the ‘best of’ items in various domains, including:
    1. A newly rediscovered method of holistic strength-training.
    2. A powerful yet little-known bodywork technique for resetting muscular imbalances throughout the body.
    3. An affordable, quiet, and easy-to-clean juicer that can uniquely handle anything from soft fruits to wheatgrass.
    4. Specially-designed computer mice that help prevent carpal-tunnel syndrome.
    5. Quality resources on mental and emotional mastery.
    6. An ingenious variation on the daily to-do list which can virtually guarantee a positive emotional state.

Request for feedback

There are by now enough readers of this site for me to be able to collect enough data about your preferences and expectations for the purpose of making this site better.

On this occasion I would like to request all of you to take a moment to send me your feedback by filling out the comment box below or by sending me an e-mail (which I may publish anonymously in the comments section unless you request otherwise).

  1. Please let me know your thoughts on the existing content and presentation: What things did you like? What would you want to have been done differently? Constructive criticism is especially welcome.
  2. Please let me know what you would like to be reading about on this site over the next months: Is there any topic from the ones I mentioned above that you are especially interested in? Do you have further suggestions or requests for specific articles?

The more information that each of you supply, and the more of you that reply, the better I will be able to serve you and other readers.

I wish you all a healthy and remarkable 2008 — a year full of discovery and continued progress toward the highest purpose of your existence!

N.B.: Please take a moment to leave your feedback below.

I find it very refreshing to see & read the articles on your web page. I am a nutritionally conscious 67 year old male, who became a “Mainstream Medicine” convert circa 1998, due to a badly managed foot wound that was badly infected and very quickly developed into gangrene.

Since that time, I have been vigorously involved in reading/studying anything I can get my hands on regarding Micro Biology, Ortho Molecular Nutrition, Homeopathy, Naturopathy and/or any articles on general Physiology. Not only did I manage to avoid amputation of my foot, in addition I believe I was successful in reversing (or, in the process of reversing) a few degenerative conditions to date.

Fortunately, I view all of this as a “wake-up call”, were it not for the timely advice and professional guidance of The Naturopathic College (Clinic) in Toronto, and the valuable lessons I learned through several sessions with Dr. Jacob Scheer N.D. (also of Toronto). In January 2007 I moved to Elliot Lake, Ontario where I hope to permanently regain & maintain my health & well being.

Dear Dr. Nortman,

I look forward to receiving your newsletters in 2008.  The two major topics you intend to cover, meet with my approval.  (grin)

I’ve kept up-to-date on news re creating and living a healthy, wholistic, life-style… and will be interested to see if you concur with my findings.  Where we don’t concur, I will give your ideas more weight than those I hold, since I know Homeopathy works.  I have stories!  :-))

(I am a Baha’i, and Homeopathy agrees with Baha’u'llah’s teachings in regard to medical care in the future.  I have also used Homeopathy for the past 41 years… raising my six children (and keeping them well) by using Homeopathic remedies prescribed by myself and/or by a competent Homeopathic Physician.)

Warmly,
Julie

I am interested in articles about psychological difficulties in children. I have an ADD son who is a bit developmentally delayed as well, and my wife and I have tried several psychological treatment methods which helped only a little. We’d like to avoid drugs and even these cannot help the developmental delay.

I’d also be interested to learn about homeopathic remedies for children in general.

I have used Homeopathy for years through a very competent physician.  I no longer am able to use her as she is in another state so I am trying to learn myself.  I recently was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and am anxious to learn if there are any remedies for this.  I enjoy everything that I have read.  Thank you.

The little bit of experience that I’ve had with homeopathy has given me a taste of the vast possibilities of the ailments that can be cured.  I use homepathic pellets for myself and my dogs when needed.  I believe in it so much that I’ve even considered joining a homeopathic discussion group, but there isn’t one close to me.

Please explain in laymen’s terms what a healing crisis is.  I’m also interested in any other facets of homeopathic medicine.  Can homeopathy treat fibromyalgia?  Also, what about allergies or sleep disorders?  There’s only 2 homeopaths that I know of in my region.  Any suggestions of how to find a reputable one?  Those are the types of things I’d like to hear about.  Thanks!

Thank you for an outstanding blog of great interest to many. My wish is that there be even more references to current research and to researchers such as Dr. R. Roy who are at the threshold of Homeopathic related research.

It is important to have plenty of intellectual ammunition to have ready against the unceasing nonsense, misrepresentations and other distortions which are constantly appearing such as the widely seen Goldacre attacks. I note that these attacks arise quickly, get wide publicity but then the people making the attacks against homeopathy disappear back into the woodwork and NEVER hang around to discuss specifics.

I myself, after first learning about Homeopathy, and posting about it on Usenet, was attacked with statements such as Homeopathy had never passed a double blind placebo test, or Homeopathy could not possibly work because it violates Avogadro’s law. Later, after much reading, I learned otherwise.

Hence, my interest in refuting the illogical and emotional anti-Homeopathists each and every time the advance their “pet” “arguments” against it.

Hi,

About 13 years ago I discovered homeopathy. I live in Las Vegas, NV back then we had a homeopathic society that met at the library it no longer happens. I was very happy to see your website. My life has changed due to homeopathy. When I get to flu or a cold or even more serious illlnesses such as mononucelosis, my whole family uses them we get better in days not weeks.

When my 3 yr old grandson somehow contacted mono I researched it on the internet and came up with a plan. In three weeks he was completely well. The doctors told my daughter he would be sick for months. I am a true believer in God and he has lead me to be holistic at a very young age. Only homeopathics are the ultimate healing path in my opinion. It is alot quicker than herbal, although herbal is very good also. I grew up with a mother that was a nurse and for everything gave us asprin or antibiotics, I vowed when I grew up I would never take anything that a doctor gave me. Thank you for having this email list for people like me.

Sincerely, Rosemary Naples

I am in the process of studying homeopathy and use it for minor illnesses for my kids and myself - it works well for them. I haven’t managed to convert all those around me - but I’m trying. I’m also battling a bit with my 9 year old with allergic rhinitis - will probably approach her allopathic doctor as my medical knowledge is lacking.

I’m really pleased to have come across your site. I wish more people could experience the benefits of homeopathy - and not feel helpless and vunerable.

Good luck,

I like what you have outlined and wish to be tolerant of divergent views.

I personally am very up-to-date on scientifically researched alternative medicine, including nutrition. I have dabbled in homeopathy on my own with some help from articles by a Homeopathic Vets’ articles in Acres, USA, and have had good results from some combo preparations. My primary needs are greater insights to common medical conditions and specific preparations which are commonly used for them.

Thanks for sticking your neck out for the common lay person.
